Njegusi – Lovcen – Cetinje - Kotor
If you are interested in meeting locals, learning about their lifestyle, the history and the tradition of Montenegro- this tour is perfect for you!
Your guide will welcome you and take you on the most adventurous ride you can have while in Montenegro. You will take the winding road from the 19th century that has 25 switchbacks- the first one ever made to connect Montenegro with Kotor. When you reach the top, you will enjoy the most spectacular and breathtaking view on the Bay of Kotor. From here, the road will take you to Njegusi- the birthplace of Petrovic dynasty and the home of the most delicious smoked ham in the region. You will have the opportunity to meet the local family and spend some time with them. They will show you their smoking house, explain you the process of making smoked ham and show you their distillery where they make the traditional Montenegrin brandy-loza. Finally, you will try and enjoy all their home made products.
After visiting Njegusi, we will continue to mountain Lovcen, one of the five national parks and the symbol of Montenegro. We will climb the second highest peak of the mountain, because there lies the reason of our visit- the mausoleum of Peter II Petrovic- Njegos! There will be 461 steps to climb, but it will be worth it! The most famous poet and philosopher of Montenegro chose this peak for a good reason- from here you can see everything that was important to him, to his people and to his country.
From Lovcen, we will continue towards the Old Royal capital called Cetinje. Once a capital of kingdom of Montenegro, today the cultural capital of our country. This charming little town has three academies, twelve museums and most important monuments of our history. You will see the old monastery that is still the heart of Orthodox religion in Montenegro, the Billiard house and visit the palace of King Nicolas 1st.
After the walking tour you will have some free time in Cetinje to enjoy it on your own and then you will meet your guide and continue back to Kotor.
Take a walking tour through this fortified medieval town and let the atmosphere take you back to 17th and 18th century. Walk across the charming squares and find out legends about its residents, palaces and monumental churches.
